Highway 34 flower project needs financial support

Park Rapids comes alive in the summer, and so does the colorful flowers hanging along Highway 34.

Hafner's is encouraging sponsors to come forward to help fund the project. Businesses, individuals and organizations are asked to support the cause and sponsor a flower pole for $200.

Hafner's Greenhouse started the beautification initiative in 2010. Nearly 100 overflowing flower baskets hang each year — from Lori Lea Lanes along Highway 34 to Cease Funeral Home at Fair Avenue, with extra attention paid to the centerpiece display at Ace Hardware.

Hafner's raises all the flowers in their greenhouses and hangs baskets around town by Memorial Day. Additional labor is involved as they take the baskets down around Labor Day each year, along with watering every day throughout the summer.

Hafner's donates all the flowers that hang on the railing at Ace as well as the fire hall.

The Park Rapids Downtown Business Association purchases hanging baskets in the downtown district.

For more information on becoming a pole sponsor or to donate to the project, contact Mike Hafner at 732-8033.
